Ton vs. m³: Which Should You Order?
4 August 2026 · Aggregated Aggregates
Aggregates are sold by weight (tons) or by volume (m³), and the right choice depends on how your project measures material.
- Civil and road-building specifications (SANS 1200, COLTO/TRH14) are usually written in m³ of compacted layer.
- Trucking and invoicing is usually done in tons.
Every product page on Aggregated Aggregates converts live between the two using the material's own bulk density, so you never have to do the maths yourself — enter either unit and see the other update instantly.
A quick example
Sub-base gravel at 1,700 kg/m³ means 6 m³ is 10.2 tons. Washed river sand at 1,550 kg/m³ means the same 6 m³ is 9.3 tons. That difference is why a ton price and an m³ price for the same material are never the same number.
